For the meltings with different proportions of charge materials (scrap, cast iron, metal-coolers) in process of steelmaking in basic oxygen furnaces, the specialists of SE "UkrRTC "Energostal" (in terms of a the research work) carried out the equipment tests for gas exhaust ducts of basic oxygen furnaces No. 1, 2 of basic oxygen furnace shop of PJSC "Iron & Steel Works "AZOVSTAL".
One of the main troubles in operation of basic oxygen furnace gas purifying is the formation of carbonate deposits in gas purifiers, especially in Venturi pipes.
The results of the performed work showed how it is possible to forecast the change in the water chemical composition coming from the gas purification reverse cycle of basic oxygen furnace in case of the increasing meltings number. The consequences of the production intensification were analyzed in the work as well.
The causes and the mechanism of carbonate deposits formation are determined. In 2016, design, fabrication & installation indicator is higher than in 2012, which represents a higher intensity of carbonate deposits in gas purifiers.
The dependence between the increase of alkalinity in the recycled water and the increase of loaded lime quantity and, correspondingly, the dependence of the carbonate deposit intensity increase on the meltings number increase is defined. This will require additional measures for water stabilization treatment in order to prevent deposits.
The technique for forecasting of chemical composition changes in recycled water in case of steelmaking intensification in basic oxygen furnaces was developed by SE "UkrRTC "Energostal" specialists. This technique can be used at other enterprises for the assessment of consequences, that may occur without reconstruction of the reversing cycles of Basic Oxygen Furnace Shop.
